What Janzu Is

Janzu is a lineage-based aquatic bodywork practice. The receiver floats in warm, body-temperature water while the practitioner moves, stretches, and supports the body through fluid sequences.

It was developed by Juan Villarino in Brazil, emerging from years of study in aquatic bodywork, Watsu, craniosacral work, and somatic movement traditions. It is not ancient wisdom repackaged. It is a carefully developed discipline — taught through direct transmission, refined in warm water, carried by practitioners who train slowly and deliberately.

The word “Janzu” itself points toward water’s role as teacher. The practice treats water not as a setting, but as a collaborator — one that changes the rules of gravity, proprioception, and nervous system signaling in ways no land-based practice can.

How It Works

A Janzu session has a shape — an arc, not a checklist.

Conversation. Before the water, a brief exchange. Not an intake form. A moment of presence. We discuss comfort, boundaries, and anything worth knowing. Your words set the container.

Immersion. You enter warm water — chest-deep, body-temperature. Floats support you. The edges between body and water blur. When you’re ready, you close your eyes.

Movement. The practitioner guides your body through fluid sequences — slow stretches, rhythmic patterns, moments of stillness. Each session follows a structure but responds to what your body offers. Nothing is forced. Nothing is rushed. Typically 60–90 minutes.

Return. A slow return to standing. Quiet integration time. No rush to talk, process, or perform understanding. What happened in the water speaks for itself.

The Water

Water changes the rules. Gravity loosens. Warm water and buoyancy are relaxing in a way talk rarely is — most people settle within minutes.

In Janzu, the water holds weight the practitioner doesn’t have to. It creates a sensory environment where the body can soften without being told to. Most people close their eyes within the first minute — not because they were asked to, but because there was no reason to keep them open.

Body-temperature water. Chest-deep. Quiet. That is the foundation.

What This Is Not

We believe clarity builds trust, so here it is plainly:

Somatic Foundation

Janzu draws from aquatic bodywork traditions, breathwork, and somatic movement principles. It supports the body’s capacity for self-regulation — the ability to shift from activation to rest without forcing it.

This is not psychotherapy. Not medical treatment. Not a substitute for clinical care. It is a practice that respects the intelligence of the body and creates conditions where that intelligence can surface.

We do not make claims about outcomes. Every body responds differently. What we offer is a well-held space and a practiced hand.

Who This May Be For

You might be drawn to Janzu if:

This may not be right if you’re seeking a medical intervention, need guaranteed outcomes, or prefer a spa-style pampering experience. That’s okay. Knowing what this isn’t is as important as knowing what it is.

Location

We practice on the North Shore of Kauaʻi. Session location details are shared after our initial conversation.

The setting matters. Kauaʻi is not a backdrop — it is part of the container. The pace of this island, the quality of its water, the rhythm of its seasons — these shape the practice as much as any technique. Without agenda.
